Mineral Resource Assessment Workshop: The graphite potential in Greenland

20-11-2017

A workshop on assessment of the graphite potential in Greenland will be held at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) from November 23-24th 2017.

The workshop is organized by GEUS and the Ministry of Mineral Resources in Greenland (MMR). Everybody with an interest in economic geology can participate as observers at the workshop.

The 'Mineral Resource Assessment Workshop' project was initiated in 2009 as part of the Global Mineral Resource Assessment Program (GMRAP) carried out by the USGS. Compiled information on known deposits and examinations of different geological provinces were used to assess the presence of undiscovered deposits in the top 1 km of the Earth's crust.

However the upcoming workshop will deviate from the standard resource assessment procedures applied in previous workshops, as the grade and tonnage are not the paramount parameters for this type of resources. Consequently, no voting of selected tracts will be included, but rather standardized discussions and scoreboard evaluations.

Graphite value chain experts have been invited along with exploration groups, consultants and research geologists with knowledge of graphite mineralisations in Greenland. Known graphite occurrences and showings in Greenland will be discussed and assessed.

At GEUS, annual workshops have been held for the assessment of the copper, rare-earth element, zinc, nickel, tungsten, gold, magmatic titanium-vanadium and uranium potential in Greenland, in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively.
