Statement on the contents of this catalogue

This catalogue contains a nearly complete listing of publications on Greenland issued by the
Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) and the former Geological Survey of Green-
land (GGU, 1946 to 1995). It thus contains both current and discontinued series. The designation
`nearly complete' stems from the fact that some items not part of series and now out of print are not
included, for example the Tectonic/geological map of Greenland (1:2 500 000) published in 1970
and the 600-page book Geology of Greenland published in 1976.

The three current geological series of the Survey the peer-reviewed Geological Survey of Den-
mark and Greenland Bulletin and Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland Map Series and
the open-file series Danmarks og Grønlands Geologiske Undersøgelse Rapport contain material
relating to all parts of the Kingdom of Denmark (Denmark, Faeroe Islands and Greenland), as well
to other countries where the Survey has activities. Only those volumes dealing with Greenland-
related topics are cited in this catalogue and thus the numbering of these series is not consecutive.

In section 14 on `Other Greenland literature' some information on monographs on Greenland geol-
ogy published in and outside Denmark is given. It should be noted that most items in this special
section cannot be purchased from the Survey.

In 2002, the Survey entered intOFormalised cooperation with other institutions when Geocenter
Copenhagen was established. From 2007 this cooperation is with two institutes of the University of
Copenhagen: the Geological Museum and the Department of Geography and Geology. In 2005, the
Geocenter launched a popular scientific series in Danish, Geoviden Geologi og Geografi that
replaced Geologi Nyt fra GEUS which was produced by the Survey between 1996 and 2004.
Titles of articles pertaining to Greenland from this new series are included in this catalogue (section
13.3).

In 2007, the official name of the national geological survey was changed to De Nationale Geolo-
giske Undersøgelser for Danmark og Grønland (GEUS). However, the Survey's former name
Danmarks og Grønlands Geologiske Undersøgelse is retained in the name of the Survey's open-file
series (section 2.2).

The name GEUS and the sale of Greenland publications
The official name of the national geological survey is De Nationale Geologiske Undersøgelser for
Danmark og Grønland, in English the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland. As the name
is long and somewhat cumbersome in both languages, it is for many purposes abbreviated to
GEUS, derived from the Danish name for a geological survey ( GE ologisk U nder S øgelse). The short
name GEUS is featured in the Survey's logo, which is prominent on the front of this catalogue and
on the Survey's writing paper, invoices and other documents; the short name GEUS is used
increasingly within the Survey as a synonym of the official Survey name.

We are aware that the meaning and status of the short name GEUS have been misunderstood by
some customers and international contacts: it is not readily decipherable from the full name. We
would like to emphasise that the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (De Nationale Geo-
logiske Undersøgelser for Danmark og Grønland = GEUS) offers all the services previously avail-
able from the former Geological Survey of Greenland (Grønlands Geologiske Undersøgelse =
GGU), including the full range of former GGU and new GEUS publications.

5.3 Geological maps of North and North-East Greenland

Coloured maps at 1:250 000 with contour interval 100 m.

A set of 49 digital maps at 1:250 000 covers North and North-East Greenland from Washington Land in the
west to Scoresby Sund in the east. Three additional sheets present a common legend, structural subdivisions,
sedimentary basins and basement complexes, and an index map (shown here) giving sheet coverage. The 49
maps are compiled on the basis of the seven 1:500 000 map sheets forming part of the national map sheet
coverage (see section 3.1). These sheets were published by Geological Survey of Greenland and in later years
by the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland between 1984 and 2004. The geology portrayed on the
oldest sheets has been updated by new knowledge and the nomenclature of map units has been revised and
made consistent across the original sheet boundaries.

The maps are a sequel to a set of topographic sheets at the same scale (see section 8.2).

Released 2007.

The data set is accessible as interactive web-maps at: www.geus.dk

Available as a folder comprising 52 sheets (64 x 54 cm) at 2500 DKK

8. Topographic
maps

8.1 Topographic maps of North and North-East Greenland

Coloured maps at 1:250 000 with contour interval 100 m.

A set of 53 digital maps covers North and North-East Greenland from Inglefield Land in the west to Scoresby
Sund in the east. One additional sheet provides an index map (shown here) and a legend.

The maps show the usual range of physiographic features, viz. coasts, rivers, lakes and ice. They are coloured
with a 100 m contour interval over both land and ice, and with selected spot heights in metres. They have been
drawn at the Survey from air photographs using Kort & Matrikelstyrelsen (KMS) ground control points and
aerotriangulation. Map projection is Universal Transverse Mercator, zone 24.

The maps are a sequel to a set of geological sheets at the same scale but with four extra sheets covering
Inglefield Land and Humboldt Gletscher (see section 5.3).

Released 2007. The data set is accessible as interactive web-maps at: www.geus.dk

Available in a folder comprising 54 sheets (64 x 54 cm) at 2500 DKK
