Ph.D fellowship available in geology/geophysics

15-11-2006

A Ph.D. fellowship is available in geology/geophysics at the Geological Institute, University of Copenhagen. The fellowship is financed by ConocoPhillips on behalf of the license partners in Denmark License 01/06. The project deals with the Upper Jurassic succession in the Gertrud Graben and High in the North Sea with focus on shallow marine sandbodies. The research work includes description of available core data, interpretation of biostratigraphy and 3D seismic where integration of all available data will be the main objective for the thesis. The candidate therefore should have a background that allows her or him to quickly absorb different methodologies and a strong background in either sequence stratigraphy or seismic interpretation will be of advantage. Most of the work will be carried out at the Geological Institute and at GEUS at Geocenter Copenhagen. Thesis advisor will be Professor Finn Surlyk and technical advisor will be Peter Johannesen at GEUS. Some travel to Norway to the ConocoPhillips office in Tananger near Stavanger will be expected. Preferred start up is in January 2007.
