GERDA - GEophysical Relational DAtabase

The geophysical database, GERDA, is a strong tool for data storage, handling and QC. Data are uploaded to and downloaded from the GERDA database through this website. Map views provide an overview of data availability for any given area. Once geophysical data have been uploaded to the database, they may be used independently of the original survey for which they were collected.

GERDA is the Danish national database on shallow geophysical data. Since its establishment in 1998-2000, the database has been continuously developed. The database is hosted by the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS).

The GERDA database and its web access form a unique data storage system for geophysical data at the service of national and regional authorities as well as private companies. GEUS offers to host the individual databases and their special designed web access.

 The GERDA database is an open system with open data exchange formats. It comprises a wide range of geophysical data (electric and electromagnetic data, both raw and processed, reflection seismic data and borehole logging data). For geoelectric and electromagnetic data, inverted 1D and 2D models are included, and for seismic data the processed sections are comprised. All information on data acquisition, data processing and the inversion procedure can be stored, facilitating full reprocessing and inversion of data when needed and making the inversion and interpretation of data transparent.

On the following pages, we outline the use of GERDA in Denmark in the context of the National Groundwater Mapping Programme which covers approx. 40 percent of the Danish area and has been operative since 1999.
