  • Sofia Ribeiro er biolog og studerer geologiske sedimentarkivers indhold af marine protister (hovedsageligt dinoflagellater) med henblik på at rekonstruere miljø- og klimaændringer samt populationsdynamik. Sofia har erfaring i at arbejde med recente og sen-Holocæne selskaber af dinoflagellatcyster i fuld-marine til estuarine miljøer, omfattende 'upwelling' systemer ud for Den Iberiske Halvø, Azorerne, Sortehavet, vestkysten af Sverige, Vestgrønland (Diskobugten) og Østersøen. Sofia blev tilknyttet GEUS i 2011 som medarbejder i INFLOW-projektet. I 2012 er hun påbegyndt projektet ARCGEN ('Arctic fjords as archives of microevolution in a warming climate'). Dette projekt har til formål at kvantificere de direkte effekter af klimaændring på den marine mikrobiota ved at aktivere og teste hvilestadier (cyster) bevaret i Arktiske fjordsedimenter. I projektet er det tillige målet, at belyse sammenhænge mellem klimaændringer i Arktis og mikroevolution på det genomiske niveau. Effekten af klimaændringer på menneskelige samfund (herunder nordboerne i Grønland) er også en del af Sofias forskningsinteresser.
