Lena Håkansson has an educational background in glacial geology and her research focuses on the reconstruction of former ice sheets. At present she is working on a postdoc project which is aimed at reconstructing the sensitivity of the Greenland Ice Sheet to Holocene warming by using mainly glacial lake sediment records from Paakitsoq, north of Illulisat and from the margin of Upernavik Isström. She is also involved in paleoclimate research projects focusing on dating methods (cosmogenic exposure dating), stratigraphy and geomorphology in east Greenland, on Svalbard, in south Sweden and in Russia.
