    • Francisca Staines-Urías is a paleoceanographer working primarily with micro and nanno fossils as proxies for climate reconstructions. Currently, she's dedicated to reconstruct 10000 years of past oceanographic changes in the Eastern Greenland-Faroe Ridge region, an area of great importance due its sensitivity to climate changes and because it corresponds to one of the few locations where Overflow cold water produced in the Northern Seas leaves the North Atlantic. This oceanographic reconstruction is based on a multiproxy investigation comprising foraminiferal census, isotopic analyses of foraminiferal carbonate, and sedimentological analyses. Francisca's research is carried out through the HOLOVAR research project (Holocene oceanographic variability around the Faroe Islands), a collaborative effort between GEUS (Denmark) and the Havstovan Institute of Marine Research (Faroe Islands). Francisca has also lead two oceanographic campaigns, collecting sedimentary cores in the North and the Equatorial Atlantic. Previously, as PhD student and Postdoctoral researcher, she worked with records from the Tropical and Subtropical Pacific to reconstruct and investigate past ENSO (El Niño-Southern Oscillation) and PDO (Pacific Decadal Oscillation) variability.
