Introduction

Our laboratory was established at the Geological Survey of Denmark in 1938 with the foundation of the Bog Laboratory, later it became part of the Geobotanical Department, and now of the Department of Environmental History and Climate Change. The laboratory is now designed for a range of diagnostic and interpretative services with special focus on Quaternary sediments from the north-Atlantic region (e.g. Denmark, Greenland, Faeroes):

  • Physical determinations Furnaces
    • loss-on-ignition
    • gravimetric carbonates
    • magnetic susceptibility
  • Sample preparation
    • pollen, relative and quantitative
    • pollen trapping (monitoring) Pollencapture
      • sample sorting and preparation
    • dinoflagellate cysts
    • diatoms
      • lake sediments
      • marine sediments (the laboratory has special expertise in gaining increased recovery in problematic sections using heavy liquid concentration)
  • Quantitative pollen analysis
