The main task of the department is to coordinate the national groundwater mappingprogramme. This involves supporting the Nature Agency under the Ministry of Environment in their work with the national groundwater mapping and planning, and to collect new data and maps for the national databases used in the groundwater mapping by both the Nature Agency and GEUS. The Department of Groundwater and Quaternary Geology Mapping is developing and implementing standards and methods for the national groundwater mapping and assists in creating geological and hydrogeological models to be used in the national mapping and planning tasks. The Department of Groundwater and Quaternary Geology Mapping is also heading the project management of GEUS' groundwater monitoring and is responsible for the yearly reporting of the groundwater monitoring results.
