Thin Section and Sample Preparation Facility

The sample preparation laboratory offers a complete range of rock processing equipment including machinery for cutting, crushing and pulverizing for mineral and chemical analysis, and mineral separation. In addition, the laboratory produces a range of types of thin sections and polished sections, blocks and wafers used in a variety of analytical techniques. Our products include:

Made from pre-cut slabs of solid samples:
Covered standard thin sections
Uncovered standard thin sections
Polished standard thin sections
Covered 'extra large' thin sections
Uncovered 'extra large' thin sections
Polished 'extra large' thin sections
Polished thick sections (300 um to 1 mm)
The polishing is of microprobe quality.

For fragile samples, loose sediments, and mineral separates:
The same as above, made from impregnated blocks

For both kinds of material:
Polished 1 inch epoxy impregnated blocks

Staining of specimens (feldspar, calcite)
