DATABASE GROUP

GEUS uses databases and programmes as support to solving geological tasks. The development of these databases and programmes is organised in the database group that belongs to the Geological Data Centre.

Tasks:
The main task of the database group is to develop and maintain GEUS' programs and databases. This means:

  • Jupiter : which is GEUS' internal central system with technical and administrative borehole data, geology, ground water chemistry, water levels, drinking water chemistry and water resources data.
  • PC JUPITER : which is both a Windows programme and a data format, which is used to exchange data on boreholes and geology.
  • SAMBA : which is GEUS' central system for oil investigation and exploitation boreholes and geophysical data that are collected in connection with oil and gas research.
  • GERDA which is a system for management of environmental geophysical data.

Besides the database group helps other departments to build up and use databases and programmes for research projects.
