Nature and climate

Glaciologists and climatologists measure the climate and melting of the Inland Ice with weather stations located at the margins of the Inland Ice. Through international collaborations the scientists put the spotlight on areas that concern all of us: climate change, rising sea level and changing conditions for plants and wildlife.
The department works within three main areas: marine geological mapping, climate and environmental history of Denmark and Greenland and monitoring of the melting of Greenland’s Inland Ice.

The department works within three areas: microbial colonisation of the Inland Ice surface and changes of the ice albedo, release of greenhouse gases from permafrost soils, and oil degradation in the ocean and on land.
