Geology and energy resources

The presence of oil, gas and other energy resources depends on a set of specific geological environments and conditions. The exploration of Greenland’s geology for energy resources is an interdisciplinary subject that involves competences from several departments.
The geological development of the sedimentary basins in and around Denmark and Greenland are described and analysed using data and test materials from wells and outcrops.
The department carries out research and consultancy services on hydrocarbon reservoirs and source rocks, exploration as well as production.
Sophisticated modelling and mapping tools are used for exploration tasks, such as mapping of oil and gas fields. Research projects are often done in collaboration with international partners.
