GEUS is the national geological datacenter and makes as such data and knowledge available for authorities, educational institutions, businesses, private persons etc. This is stated in the law concerning GEUS and the Geological Datacenter was established to ensure this.
The Well Data archive was established as a result of the Water Supply Act of 1926 with the purpose of registering and preserving data on groundwater and geological conditions.
The main task of the Database group is to secure that GEUS data are stored centrally in a well-structured way, and made available for GEUS' staff, co-workers and the public.
Since 1984 GEUS has used Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for automated mapping and geo- graphic analysis. These assignments are organized in the GIS group at Geological Data Centre.
