​ZINC DATA PACKAGE

​Several zinc occurrences and stream-sediment zinc anomalies are associated with the Navarana structure in NE Greenland.
Traces and showings of zinc mineralisation are numerous in Greenland, especially in the Palaeozoic Franklinian Basin, which extends for more than 2,500 km E-W through the Canadian Arctic Islands and northern Greenland. The Zinc data package is a compilation of all current data available from North Greenland. Data were first released in 2011, new data was added in 2014.

Traces and showings of zinc mineralisation are numerous in Greenland, especially in the Palaeozoic Franklinian Basin, which extends for more than 2,500 km E-W through the Canadian Arctic Islands and northern Greenland. In Greenland, the basin borders the Arctic Ocean and is nearly 1,000 km long and up to 200 km wide. Reconnaissance mineral exploration in the 1990s has demonstrated wide-spread zinc mineralisation and the basin is believed to offer and excellent potential for sediment hosted zinc deposits. Especially the Citronen Fjord deposit is believed to be one of the world's largest undeveloped zinc resources.

The Zinc data package released in 2011 is a compilation of all current data available from North Greenland. When downloading and using data contained in the Zinc data package, you acknowledge that any and all content on the site is protected by copyright and other proprietary rights.

FURTHER RESULTS FROM NORTH GREENLAND (2014)
In 2012 and 2013 reconnaissance work was carried out in the Eastern part of the Franklinian Basin of North Greenland - within the framework of the so called NordZink project. The areas of Kronprins Christian Land, Peary Land and Amundsen Land were covered and stream sediment samples were collected. The analytical results of this work complement those included in the zinc data package, originally released in 2011. The new data (locations + complete analytical results) on these additional stream sediment samples can be downloaded at ZincDataPackageUpdate.xls (Microsoft Excel file ~600kb).

With the exception of the data mentioned below all data contained in the Zinc data package can be downloaded FOR FREE.

  • The Airborne ElectroMagnetic Survey Data (AEM Greenland 1994 - 1998) summarized as images in item 4.b. can be purchased for 25.000 DKK for each survey.
  • An ArcGIS presentation of available data is included in the Zinc data package (item 5). The corresponding digital geological and topographical data (item 6), can be purchased for 11.000 DKK.

The Navarana Fjord escarpment marks shelf and trough facies shift in the Franklinian Basin. The facies border is believed to be one of the guiding controls on the formation of zinc mineralisations in North Greenland. Several zinc occurrences and stream-sediment zinc anomalies are associated with the structure.
